I just gave outsiderssolutions.ca a new identity, and this site was starting to look like its older sibling. So I handed the redesign to Claude Opus 5.5 — and kept the final say.
If you've been here before, you'll notice: this site has a new look.
I recently refreshed outsiderssolutions.ca with a bolder, more industrial identity. Next to it, my personal site suddenly looked generic. So I tried something: one prompt, roughly "revamp the website, give it a new look, go check outsiderssolutions.ca", handed to Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code.
What it actually did
- Studied the reference site in the browser. It pulled the real fonts, colours and section rhythm from outsiderssolutions.ca instead of guessing.
- Built a sibling, not a copy. Same family (condensed uppercase headlines, steel greys, black bands), but with its own personality: my green as the single accent and a monospace voice for dates and labels.
- Reworked every page. Home, blog, articles, portfolio, talks, timeline, contact, plus dark mode and mobile.
- Checked its own work. It ran lint and a production build, and reviewed screenshots of every page in English and French, at phone width and in dark mode.
- Flagged content issues instead of silently "fixing" them. For example, it caught that two parts of my bio didn't agree on years of experience, and left that decision to me.
The 10% that was mine
Not everything was perfect. After the build, a background dev server it thought it had stopped was still running and crashed with a cryptic error. I sent a screenshot, it found the cause and cleaned it up in a couple of minutes.
That's exactly the point of my talk, The Augmented Human: AI gets you 90% of the way in no time. The last 10% (reviewing, deciding what stays, catching what's off) is still the human's job.
AI proposes, the Augmented Human decides. This redesign is the latest proof.
Like the new look, or spot something broken? Let me know.
